Halloween Party with the Hansens

The Hansens invited us over for a Halloween party on Saturday.  We had a fun time getting dressed up for it.  However, when we got to their house and saw the adults didn't dress up- we took our wigs off.  Ella was a Barbie Princess, Alissa is a Candy Corn Princess and Molly is Rapunzel.

Mike cooked us a yummy dinner in a pumpkin.

We played a little spider web game with the kids and they got tons of candy and prizes.

Then some Halloween Bingo.

Then laughed as everybody tried to eat a doughnut off a string.

The kids thought that was especially fun.

Sure do love the Hansens and are grateful for their friendship to our family.

Ella's First Piano Recital

Ella had her very first piano recital on Friday.  She was nervous and anxious about it so we tried not to talk about it that day.  Just have fun dressing up for the occasion with high hopes that she would perform.

She went up and acting a little nervous gave me thumbs up.  She introduced herself and told the audience she would be playing Halloween Fun.

I was so proud of her.  I could tell she was counting the notes in her head she played them just so perfectly.  Love that girl!

She even remembered to curtsy at the end as Aunt Cindy asked her to.  :)  This piano experience has been so good for her in only a few short months.

Lissa Lou

I just love this girl!  She loves to be in her pajamas and will change into them in the middle of the day.  Occasionally if she falls asleep early in the car or something I will put her in bed with her clothes on.  She will wake up and quietly change into her pajamas and go back to sleep.  Such a sweetheart.

I let her paint a few pumpkins the other day while Ella was at school and Molly was asleep.  It's completely red and sitting next to the orange cup.  She painted the other one blue and then wiped it off with a towel.  She had little stripes of blue hair from the paint and just looked so cute and happy up there uninterrupted by her sisters and just chatting away with me.

She also got to go on a little "date" with dad today.  He took her on the four wheeler to Maverick which is just down the road to get a drink and a treat.  She thought it was amazing and came back so excited.  I was happy to see her smiling ear to ear like that.  Her daddy was too.

Dustin's Birthday - Conference

Dustin turned the big 3-0 this month.  He has been having all sorts of anxieties about getting "old".  It cracks me up, he sounds like my mom.  For his birthday we went to Famous Daves BBQ for dinner with his parents.  Sadly the kids were terrible for dinner that night but thankfully his parents were good company for him while I ran multiple bathroom trips and 1 car trip with the kids.  Ella got them all started by asking to have her picture taken by this wooden bear.

The weekend before his birthday we got to go to Utah and stay in a motel overnight with some good friends the Hansens.  The kids got to swim Friday night and our wonderful friends watched the kids along with their 2 kids in the motel room Saturday morning while we went to the first session of conference.  Something that has been on our bucket list.  It was an awesome experience!  In fine print the tickets say no recording devices such as cameras allowed and my husband who was probably one of the select few who read the fine print insisted that I leave all recording devices except my telephone at the car.  So this is the only picture I got.

This session was so fun because we got to see President Monson announce the change in age for missionaries.  Sisters 19 years and brothers 18 years.  It was interesting to see a bunch of young kids around us starting to text when they heard the news.  I have been to the conference center before to hear the RS Meeting with my mom and just as we did that time, you feel the Spirit so strongly testify to you the truthfulness of a Prophet.

I sure do love this husband of mine and sure am grateful that we got to celebrate his birthday in a unique and fun way this year.

Jessica & Hyrum's Wedding

Dustin's neice Jessica got married this week in the Idaho Falls temple.  It truly was a beautiful day and I was grateful for the opportunity to attend.  She is such a sweetheart.

I even got to do her hair that morning before she headed out to the temple.

The girls had a great time dancing to the reception music with their cousins.

Ella and Ian refused to dance, but they had a great time playing.  Ella wore around that winter scarf because she saw the bridesmaids doing it. :)

Congrats Jessica & Hyrum!

8, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1 year olds

I love to be busy and I love a challenge.  A few weeks back I had the opportunity to watch my brother and sister in laws 3 kids from Friday-Wednesday while they went on a vacation to Las Vegas.  I wasn't a bit worried.  I'm in the mode already and the schedules worked out perfectly.  Let me just tell you... it was a challenge.

Last year I watched the 2 older ones and we had all sorts of fun building forts, having smiley pancakes and homemade pizza.  So how is it that adding a 1 year old and the difference in the girls getting 1 year older could make such a difference?  Not really sure, but it did!

I just have to say - Alissa may be wearing 2 completely different pajama sets in this picture taken in the middle of the day and Ella is in her night gown.  Molly probably has a wet diaper and Kourtney may or may not have pants on.  This could have been their 3rd popcicle this day alone too.. I lost track.   I decided none of that mattered too much as long as they were safe of and smiling.  It was SURVIVAL MODE...
However, we did have a bridal shower here Friday night for Jessica with 20+ people and kids and a chocolate fountain... and we did take them to a dance clinic Saturday... and we did go to Leos one night... and we did have 1 extra kid Friday-Saturday which was a cousin staying from out of town... and we did stay up until 2am Friday night visiting with Dustin's neice and sister.  Maybe we did a little more than survive. :)

Made me gain a great appreciation for those moms who do this on a daily basis.  Made me realize their husbands must be a great help to them - they could have to be, right?

Made me realize how much I love these girls.

And made me realize, I am not going to be having another baby for a year or so.. :)
So fun!

Dress Up Clothes - Kids Update

These dress up clothes have been worn.. and worn..and worn again.  All the friends that visit know we have them and the tote gets emptied on a regular basis searching for a certain item.  I had the girls play fashion show and have a photo shoot for me yesterday.

I just feel like life has been going by too quickly lately and I haven't been capturing the "little things" that I love to record.

I wanted to do a quick update.

Miss Ella is growing leaps and bounds and becoming more and more like a little lady than a little girl.  It's hard for me to swallow.  She wears a dress or skirt every single day to school and absolutely LOVES to look beautiful.  She wants her hair curled, make up on and to wear heels whenever I will let her.  I have to always remind her that it is not the clothes we wear that make us beautiful but the things we say and do like the Strawberry Shortcake song teaches us.  She says, "I know."  :)

She is taking piano lessons and is doing fantastic!  She practices on her own almost every day and is really catching on easily and that makes me happy.  I hope she continues to be that excited because I'm pretty sure I'm not letting her quit anytime soon.

She has so many friends!  It is not uncommon to have 2-3 friends stop by after school to see if they can play at our house.  I love that the kids like to play here and love that Ella likes them to play here.  It has been tricky trying to fit in reading, piano and homework and leaving time to play before dinner.  The kids just really love her.

We have been trying to do individual dates with her the past few months and I think they are way worth it.  An hour or two a month with mom or dad for some serious 1 on 1 outside of the house.  Makes her know she is special and gives us a chance to talk about things going on.

Alissa is the one I feel like is growing faster than I can keep up with. Not physically because she is still tiny as ever but she is learning new things and starting to like new things such as coloring and painting which I have joy school to thank for.  Her coloring is usually 1 color on the whole picture, but it's more than what she was doing before.  She has learned days of the week and most of the months of the year.  She is really good at remembering most of the sounds that belong to each letter.  However, when it comes to worksheets and writing, she just scribbles on it.  She doesn't like to sit still that long.

She loves to have me read to her now too and that's a good time for us to sit down together.  Only problem is Molly fights her for my lap.

She is so stubborn!  She is the hardest of all of the kids to get to say sorry or give a hug.  She refuses to say the prayer.  She just is so stubborn.  However, she is the best one of all of them to not repeat what she got in trouble for.  Discipline works well on her.  It's pretty interesting.  She is a good little girl and tries to be good.  She doesn't like being in trouble or feeling like mom or dad are displeased with her.

She is so good at going to her room about 8:00 and getting into bed and going to sleep.  She doesn't like to be snuggled or held too much.  Just comforted and make sure her pink blankie is layed out on her pillow nicely and she is asleep.  She is also the first to wake up.  She usually comes and tells me it's light outside and gets my (beloved) Ipod and takes it to her bed or my bed and plays it until it's time for the rest of us to get up.  Bless that child.  She is so sweet!

Alissa loves to play with friends.  She gets to play quite often now with little cousins or friends or with joy school going on so it makes things fun for her.  She has quite an imagination!  I'm impressed with some of the things she comes up with when playing Barbies and things like that.  She likes to play dress up a lot and one day we had a boy over and she excitedly told him, "Now we can have a Price and Princesses Parade!"  It made me laugh when he said, "I'll watch."

One of my favorite things to hear her say is, "yes a rootie positootie" or "holy moly rocka moley".  It's so funny.

Molls - Monster is your typical 2 year old who is into everything!  Her favorite place to be is the pantry where she grazes all day long.  We had to get a pantry lock because she will live in there eating marshmallows and fruit snacks, jerky and whatever else she can reach.  She will climb into the garbage can to reach the "magic box" full of treats.  Makes me CRAZY!

I think it's hilarious that Molly sticks her bum out as her pose. She does it every time and also does this when she knows she is in trouble. Almost like she wants to shake it at me. She copies everything her sisters do and has really learned to dish out some attitude! However, she is so easy going that you can give her something she isn't asking for and she is ok with it.. usually.

She is possessive over mommy. If Alissa asks to be held, she quickly runs over and snuggles up before Alissa gets to me. She gets upset anytime I am holding either of the other girls and wants right in the middle. Life might get complicated one day when we decide to have baby #4.

Even though she loves mommy she is also a daddy's girl more than the other two. She is first to give him loves every day when he gets home.  It's sweet.

A funny story about her - She likes to play Barbies and is like the other girls and imitates what she wants them to say.  I heard her in the play room the other day all by herself saying, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair.. RIGHT NOW!"  followed by, "Ok, mom!"  Oh gees - makes me laugh just to think about it.    Did she learn that from me?

She is happy 99% of the time.  If she is tired or the pantry is locked that is pretty much the only time she is upset.  She is the most friendly and the most happy kid I've had.

Sister Heidi Wheeler

Aunt Heidi got her mission call this past week to Little Rock, Arkansas.  It was fun to go be with her as she opened her call to serve.

Ella looks up to her Aunt Heidi so much!  I'm grateful for her good example to our family.

PS  Yes, Ella is wearing eye liner.  She did a little make up moment with a friend before we left. :)  I don't normally let her wear make up like that at 7 years old.

Joy School Field Trip to Pumpkin Patch

This week we had our first Joy School field trip and we all met up at the UPick Pumpkin Patch.  The kids had a blast!

They had a mini straw maze for the kids to run through.

A train ride around the property.  We could hear the kids talking and giggling all the way.

Turkeys and chickens to feed.

And then everybody got to pick their own mini pumpkin.
That's Hadley, one of Alissa's favorite friends.  I totally missed getting one of my kids.

So much fun!

Boo!

One of our favorite things in October is to "Boo" some neighbors and leave them a little note and treats on their doorstep.  We went out "boo"ing last night for FHE.  I love how excited the kids get about first decorating the cookies and second racing away from the doorstep and hiding to watch them find their surprise cookies.

Date with Dad

We have been meaning to start taking Ella on "dates" so we can one on one talk with her and make sure she knows we love her.  It has been a few months of talking and we finally did it.  Dustin took her out to her choice which was Kiwi Loco for ice cream.

I had to laugh because he was really feeling tired and contemplating a reschedule with her but after dinner she went into her bedroom put on a nice clean outfit including a shirt, skirt, leggings and her high heels shoes.  She found a nice headband in the bathroom and came out fluffing her hair saying, "I just want to look my best."  Dustin looked a little confused as to why she was getting all pretty for him.  I just had to giggle.  These girls love their daddy and know that is precious time.

When he got home I asked him how it went and he said they hardly got to talk about anything because she was just too giddy and excited. :)

The two of them had a great time and without a doubt she will be looking forward to her next date with her dad.
