Rub a dub dub

I have taken my girls to JCPenney around 10 months to have their picture taken in the tubby.  The pictures hang in my bathroom, but I thought it might be fun to post.  I don't think they look very much a like at all.  Ella and Molly have common features I would say.  What do you think?

Ella turns 6 and graduates Kindergarten!

Can it be true?  Baby Ella (yes I still call her that) turned 6 on Wednesday!  I seriously cannot believe how big she is getting.  She's growing so much and getting so smart.  She had a jam packed fun filled day starting from the time she woke up.  She had streamers from her door, banners up in the kitchen and pink pancakes.  She got to go to school and get a Powerade from her teacher and I brought the class mini doughnuts and Sprite.  She was so excited to have Alissa sit at her table with her.

After school she had a friend birthday party with 9 of her friends. We played games, ate cupcakes, hit a pinata and just had a lot of fun.  We are really blessed to have such great neighbors and friends.

Opening her gifts.  Everybody was so anxious to have the "best" gift.
After the party we headed to Leo's for another party with my siblings and grandparents.  The kids will have no problems sleeping tonight.  What a fun day!!

A little about Ella...
Favorite place to go: school
Favorite food to eat:  Ramen
Wants to be when she grows up:  a weather girl, after she is a mom
Best friend:  Paige Jensen

Ella has become a really great reader!  She is getting a lot more brave to be in front of people.  She is super compassionate toward others and always wants to stop and give the beggar on the corner some money or send clothes or food to the people on TV that have little.  She is a friend to all and every time she prays she asks for help to be kind.  She is an great help to me with her baby sisters and she loves being the biggest.  I am so grateful Heavenly Father sent this sweet girl to be a part of our family.  She is an amazing little 6 year old!

Discovery Elementary had a cute little Kindergarten Graduation program.  Here they are winking in one of their little songs they learned.

Party with the Braithwaites

Dustin's parents, 4 siblings and at least 20 neices and nephews all live in Idaho Falls.  By the time we get together for holidays and everybody's birthday, graduation, baby shower, etc.. we will have spent the entire month together.  So this year we started doing a monthly birthday party where we celebrate all the birthdays in one glorious day.  I love it!  We pick a theme for the food and everybody contributes and this month we met at a park so the clean up was super minimal.

We celebrated Ella's birthday along with many other birthdays and Jared & Kara's graduation.

OSHA

I am sure you have heard me say we sometimes call Ella OSHA.  It's a good nick name for her most of the time.  She is ALL ABOUT safety and keeping the rules.  Honestly this personality is ideal for a first child because she can set a good example and help keep an eye on her younger siblings.  However, along with Miss Safety she becomes a little chicken to do things.  She will be 6 next week and still rides her bike with training wheels (which is fine) because she is nervous about tipping.  If Molly is on the bed, she will quickly lay down next to her on the edge of the bed so she doesn't roll off.  If she is laying back in the tub washing her hair and feels Molly move she jumps to make sure she isn't getting her face in the water.  Seriously!  I am not even telling stories.

So this morning I had a little list of things for her to do before school and on there was wipe light switches.  After reading it she asked, "How will I do that?"  I explained to her that she would get a wet wash cloth and wipe around the light switches.  She quietly got up and found her Idaho Power coloring book and opened to page 4 as if she had memorized the book.  She said, "Are you asking me to wipe something electrical with a wet cloth?"  and then read the top of page 4  You must be dry to touch anything elecrical.  Sure enough the picture shows a light switch.

You might think she was only trying to get out of a chore, but then she suggested, "Maybe I should use the wet wash cloth to wipe the drawer handles, they aren't electrical."

I love you Sister!

This picture deserves a post of it's own.  I love these girls with every piece of me.  I love that they are all becoming so close.  Molly started giving Alissa kisses today and they both just loved every minute of it even though Alissa was getting slobber all over her face.  Although they are starting to fight a little they still are concerned about each other and love each other so much.  Alissa made sure we picked out some popcicles for Ella today at the grocery store because she got some.  Ella is always taking good care of her sisters and making sure they are safe.

What a blessing to be a mom.  What a blessing to be a mom to these sweet girls.

Yay for Spring!

I LOVE SPRING!  I love the weather - not too cold, not too hot!  Garage sales are starting up again.  The grass is getting green.  TULIPS!  Time to start planting the garden.

It is so nice to get out and enjoy some fresh air!

Apparently Molly likes rhubarb.  She gets it from her dad.

Our tulips by the door are almost as tall as Alissa.

We got to help grandma Carol plant a rose bush.

Yay for Spring!

Puffy Pockets

People say you have to check boys pockets because they like to collect rocks.  Well my girl LOVES to collect rocks.  She comes home from school almost every day with rocks for her "rock collection".  I don't know where this rock collection is besides in front of our house in the flower bed, maybe I should find out.  Anyway, you see those puffy pants?  FULL of rocks!

Not only does this girl collect rocks, she LOVES to catch bugs and worms.

Kindergarten Field Trip to the Zoo

I got lucky and was invited to go to the Zoo with Ella's class on Tuesday.  I have had the opportunity to go to her classroom every other week to help the kids and it has been really fun for me to get to know them on an individual basis.  We had a good time at the zoo and the park.  We took lots of pictures to help out with the Kindergarten graduation slide show.

Here was our group.  "THE CRAYONS!"  Ella, Jacob, Zack, McKenna & Lilly.

Molly milestones..

This girl is growing like a weed!

*Molly got her first tooth today, bottom right.
*She is crawling everywhere now so we had to put up the baby gate.  For some silly reason I fall behind on laundry with that gate up.  I guess I get lazy and don't want to lift a basket full of clothes over it.  Sad, I know.
*She holds things up to her ear like she is talking on the phone.
*She plays peek a boo by going back and forth behind things.
*She has a rash around her mouth exactly under her binki for the last few weeks.  I have disinfected the binkis and am applying vitamin E oil throughout the day to add moisture.  I am crossing my fingers she's not allergic to something.

Mothers Day

Saturday morning I woke up feeling super tired and irritable because I had another sleepless night due to kids.  I got up, got the kids breakfast and started making a couple salads and dessert for tomorrow's dinner at Braithwaites.  As they were eating I hear Ella yell, "Alissa!".  I looked to find soggy Rice Krispies rubbed into her chair and flung all over the kitchen.  Feeling frustrated I grabbed her and sat her on the couch for a time out.  As I start to clean up I hear Ella asking over and over for me to get her something and Molly bawling her eyes out wanting to be held.  My voice gradually got louder and louder until it finally woke Dustin sleeping in the bedroom.  He could tell I was upset so immediately calmed Molly and helped Ella so they would be quiet.  I started venting my frustrations about being a mom and this is why I wear sweats every day, etc, etc.. when I realized they were all just needing some attention from me.  So I sat down on the couch, grabbed the May 2011 Friend magazine and opened to the first story which read:

The Most Important Job

Maddie watched as Mom ladled raspberry jam into canning jars. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, making the dark red fruit sparkle like rubies in the glass jars.  Mom’s face was also red. She looked tired and hot.  Maddie thought about some of the important jobs her friends’ moms had. One was an accountant. Another was an engineer. Maddie wondered why her mom didn’t have a job like those. She couldn’t help thinking that if she did, Maddie’s family would have more money. Maybe Maddie could even have some new clothes for school.
“That’s done for another year,” Mom said as she placed a lid on the last jar.
“Why do you do all that work?” Maddie asked. “We could buy jam at the store.”
Mom swiped a hand over her forehead and sank into a kitchen chair. “What’s your favorite kind of jam?” she asked.
Maddie didn’t have to think about it. “Raspberry.”
“And Dad’s?”
“Raspberry.” Maddie was beginning to understand.
“I make raspberry jam because you and your brother and your dad like it so much,” Mom said. “It makes me feel happy when I see you pulling out a jar of my jam and knowing that I made it just for you.”
Maddie thought about how Mom helped her whenever Maddie got stuck on a math problem. And how Mom was always interested to hear about how the school day went.
Maddie wrapped her arms around her mother’s waist. “Thanks, Mom.”
Mom returned the hug. “For what?”
“For doing the things you do,” Maddie said. “Being a mom is the most important job in the world.”

As I read the story outloud to my kids I had an overwhelming feeling of Heavenly Father's love for me as a mommy.  I sobbed through the whole story.  About half way through Ella stood up and grabbed me a tissue.  I felt sad for the way I had acted and so grateful for the opportunity I have to stay at home with my girls every day.  I'm so grateful for how hard Dustin works to provide for our family and make it possible for me to be here.

A few hours later the mail came and there was an unexpected card from my little sister that said:
I'd offer to take over for you on Mother's Day, but  HOLY CRAP!  Do you realize how much you DO?  She got to get my kids ready for the day a few weeks back and experience a tiny portion of life as a mommy which was a bit of an eye opener for her I guess.  Anyway, the card was another tender mercy.

That evening I was surprised again by my mom and grandma who showed up with beautiful pink roses and a cheesecake.  They stayed and visited for a while which meant a lot.

Earlier in the week I got my gift from Dustin which was a Bartlett Pear tree planted in my back yard which is just what I wanted along with 5 blank coupons. :)  Ella gave me a beautiful card she made at her school with a picture of her cute face inside of it.

On Sunday Dustin got to talk in church along with the rest of the Elders quorum presidency.  He did a wonderful job and we had 2 grandmas and 1 grandpa there to help with kids.  YAY!

After church we went to Braithwaites to eat dinner and play.  Grandma Carol let all the moms eat first and all the dads had to help their kids.  The kids had a blast playing in grandma and grandpa's back yard together and I had a blast taking tons of pictures of all the kids.

It turned out to be a pretty perfect weekend.

It has made me reflect on those moms who have impacted my life the most.  A few specific people come to mind.

MY MOM:  I have always been a "momma's girl".  When we would go shopping I would stay right by her side with one hand on the cart and I still do.  My mom is the one person I know I can call any time, any where and know she will show sincerity for whatever I am telling her.  She plays the biggest role in what kind of mom I am because I have just followed her example.

MY MOTHER IN LAW:  I have had dreams that Dustin and I are no longer married and I cry because I still want to be with his family.  I love his family and I love his mom.  She is wise and experienced.  She had 8 kids and 7 of them were wild and crazy boys!  She is full of love and compassion but tough too. I am so grateful she raised a good baby boy to be my husband. :)

MY GRANDMAS:  I love my grandmas not only for raising my parents, but for helping raise me.  They are always so supportive and loving to all us kids and all of my grandma's have been amazing examples of motherhood to me.

DR. VISICK:  I know this sounds pathetic, but Ella's pediatrician in Logan was such a good teacher to me and influenced me so much in my journey becoming a mom.  I met him in the delivery room about 5 minutes before Ella was born.  Dustin would make fun of me and say that I would take Ella into the doctor every time she would sneeze.  Sadly it's pretty much true.  Dr. Visick would drill me on all the developmental things Ella should be doing which motivated me to try really hard and be able to pass the next milestones with flying colors.  When I would show up and give him the update he would encourage me so much that I would want to do it again.  He is a great man and an excellent doctor.

MY FRIEND HEIDI:  Heidi was my visiting teacher when I moved to Logan and became one of my best friends there.  She was a mother to 3 boys and I just had my little Ella.  Because I was a new mom I watched her and learned so much from her example.  One of my very favorite things I learned from her was as she complimented and encouraged her kids.  She has such a gift of making people feel special.

MY SISTER IN LAW CINDY:  Ever since I married Dustin I have admired his sister in law Cindy.  She is married to his older brother Brian.  They moved to Idaho Falls so I have had an opportunity to get to know her even better.  She is an excellent mom, an excellent wife, strong in the church, a good cook, sews, coupons, scrapbooks, budgets, has smart kids who like her, runs, you name it she does it and she is good at it!  To top her off, she is humble and teaches me to be better.

Suprise from Aunt Heidi

Aunt Heidi went to Florida to work at Disney World for the last few months.  Before she left Ella colored a picture of Minnie Mouse for her to give to the "real" Minnie Mouse when she saw her.
One of her last days in Florida, Heidi came through with her promise to Ella by getting the "real" Minnie's autograph on the picture she colored and took a picture of Minnie Mouse holding her picture.  Then she brought both home to her.

What a lucky girl!

Ordinary Events

All 3 of these pictures are ordinary events at our house.

Sisters

We took a walk the other day so Ella could try out her new bike and after strapping the girls into the stroller, Molly immediatly layed her head on Alissa's shoulder.  Alissa didn't mind and I told her she could lay her head on Molly's head, so she did.  Within just a minute they had both fallen asleep.  Ella posed for a picture with them when we got home.

I am so grateful to have 3 girls and am excited for the bond that they already share.  There is something special about a sister and I hope they always value that friendship.

9 month Molly

In a matter of 2 weeks this baby has grown a lot so I wanted to give a quick update for my own records.
She has become obsessed with standing up and loves to stand up around the furniture.
She can stand by herself for a few seconds before she realizes she is standing and gets afraid.
She claps her hands when you say YAY!
She waves and tries to say hi.
She says dada, mama and edda (ella).
She has become a lot more friendly and will let other people hold her without throwing a big fit. (usually)
She is super scared of people in hats.  Dustin came home the other day and she puckered her bottom lip and started to cry.  As soon as he took his hat off life was good again.
She crawls a few strides and then rolls over.

It is crazy how much more grown up she seems this month.  She is quickly growing into a toddler.  Guess it's time to have another baby.  JUST KIDDING!
